Sailing Programme Notes

These notes refer to the 2024 Sailing Programme which is shown on the Calendar page and can also be downloaded here: Sailing Programme 2024 - website.pdf

Errors may occur in the published programme, and dates or times may be altered throughout the season at the discretion of the Sailing or Main Committees.

Tides in the sailing programme are shown in local time and heights are at Leith. Minimum height for racing is 4.7m.

Start times

For races, the time shown is the race start on the water. Skippers should allow enough time to launch and get to the start area on time.

For training events (including Adult, Cadets, Sea Monkeys and Windsurfing, meeting times will be confirmed by the training officer.

Dinghy Events

Series races take place around the CBC race marks shown on the chart. On each race date, we will attempt to run two races of approx. 35 to 45 minutes duration, tide and weather permitting.

AUT Autumn series
FB Winter 'Frostbite' series

Women's Race is a race in which the helm must be female.

The CBC Open Dinghy Regatta is a 2-day event open to all members of CBC and other sailing clubs.

Dinghy Cruises are short cruises to local destinations, either on one tide, or including an overnight stop. The Opening and Closing Cruises are for both dinghies and cruisers.

Cruiser Events

Series races take place over one tide starting and finishing at Cramond, normally around the CBC race marks shown on the chart.

A Weekday series
W Weekend series
MD Middle Distance series over one big tide with a longer course than normal series races

Women's Race is a race in which the helm must be female.

Long Distance Race takes place over two tides which may not start or finish at Cramond and may involve overnight stops.

Louis Gumley Trophy is an individual trophy race for yachts.

Opening and Closing cruises are open to all (dinghies and cruisers), involving a cruise to a nearby harbour or anchorage and usually an overnight stay on board.

Other Events

Free Sails are open sessions for dinghy sailing when rescue cover is provided from the start time until at least an hour after HW. Any competent member (e.g. RYA Adult Level 2 or Youth Stage 3) may take out a Club dinghy (subject to availability).

Family Fun Day is an opportunity for members to bring along friends and family for a fun day out on the water in either dinghies or cruisers. Depending on the weather, a BBQ on Cramond Island or at the clubhouse will be included.

Shottie in a Yottie is a chance for members, family and friends to have a go in the bigger boats.
