⛵ Crane-Out 2026, Preparing for Winter
Published 15:41 on 11 Oct 2026
As another sailing season draws to a close, it's time for one of the annual traditions at Cramond Boat Club: crane-out day! ️
With the help of a crane, boats were carefully lifted from the water and placed along the quay wall, where they'll spend the winter months.
While this marks the end of the season for many of our larger boats, it also marks the beginning of winter maintenance. Over the coming months, boat owners will be busy cleaning, repairing and preparing their boats for the next season.
Crane-out is always a real team effort, and a big thank you goes to everyone who helped make the day run smoothly. From those coordinating the lifts and keeping operations safe, to the volunteers handling lines, helping on the quay, and providing food and refreshments to keep everyone going. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
But sailing doesn't stop for winter! ⛵❄️
While the larger boats are safely ashore, our dinghy sailing continues throughout the winter for those keen to brave the colder weather. There's still plenty of opportunity to get out on the water and enjoy sailing at Cramond!
With the boats safely ashore, we can look forward to a winter of maintenance, club activities and, of course, more sailing.
