Crane Out 2025

Published 15:08 on 31 Oct 2025
Our annual crane-out was scheduled for Saturday 4th October but with Storm Amy bearing down on us, this looked increasingly risky as the day drew near.
Forecasts were predicting 50 knot northerly winds, so we concluded that lifting the boats on Saturday would not be safe and the decision was made to postpone by one day. Fortunately Bernard Hunter was able to provide a crane and driver (our old friend Stevie) on the Sunday.
In the event, the weather on Saturday was not quite as severe as predicted but was still well outside the safe operating limit for the 50 tonne crane.
Things had calmed down considerably by the Sunday so we were able to successfully lift out 21 boats to bring the 2025 season to a close.
It was a huge team effort from everyone involved to make it happen. There was even time for a lunch break!
Thanks are due to Jenny Stansfield and her team in the kitchen, who served up soup, pies, beans, over 100 rolls and lots of donated home baking. Thanks also to Campbell Calder, Lawrie Elliott and John Kenworthy for arranging and managing the workboat crews, Paul Sizeland and Angus Gardiner for organising things in the dinghy park, and to Gillian Haynes for ensuring everyone paid!
You now have 155 days until crane in on 4th April 2026.
