Opening Cruise to Limekilns

We had our opening cruise to Limekilns on 10th and 11th May.

Four boats left Cramond on Saturday morning: Pegasus II (Alastair Johnson), Stravaig (Alan Hampson and family), Scherzo (Chris Callender) and Innisfallen (Kay with two friends from Germany).

Saturday was bright and sunny with a light wind from the east. All the boats started by sailing, but as the wind died, we motored through the bridges, not wanting to be stuck just there. On arrival at Limekilns we met some other visiting boats from Aberdour, but there was plenty of space along the quay wall for everyone.

We were made very welcome by the Forth Cruising Club, and we all had a drink in the newly painted bar in their clubhouse.

Following a meal in the Inn at Charlestown, a night cap was consumed on one of the boats and we retired for the night.

As the tide came in on Sunday the wind got up a little from the east again, which meant it was impossible to make any way eastwards under sail against both wind and tide, so everyone resorted to motoring. Once clear of the Forth Bridge, we were able to sail the rest of the way home.
