Women's race July

In July we ran our Women's Race. It's intended to be an annual event but over recent years it's been thwarted but poor weather conditions, so we were determined to hold the race, even though the weather was borderline. With a westerly F4, gusting to F6, it wasn't for the fainthearted and only two boats set out, Wanderer Jennifer, with Leonie Griffin at the helm and Janice Kerrisk as crew, up against Laser 2000 Seaspray with Jennie Stansfield as helm and husband Howie crewing. We sailed to E mark for the course being E-Y-A and realised how challenging the conditions were as we waited for the start. Jennifer took the lead as we headed to Y but after rounding A Seaspray luffed, catching and passing Jennifer to complete the first lap. However on the way back to Y, Seaspray did a poor tack allowing Jennifer to take the lead and win the race. Only one race was completed and competitors decided to call it a day as the wind increased.
